CHARLESTON — Alpha Technologies hosted a special event at the University of Charleston's Erma Byrd Gallery Friday, March 30 on campus in Charleston.

Approximately 30 attendees — registrants from Charleston and Huntington area businesses — were present at the event, in which speakers from Cisco and NetApp were on hand to discuss ways to get businesses back on their feet should a disaster strike.

Be it a power failure, a computer virus, cyberterrorism, system administration error or a natural disaster, Alpha's goal at the March 30 event was for area businesses to have a plan.

Featured speakers included Alpha's own Ron Deeds, Client Advocate Manager; Van Flowers, NetApp Systems Engineer; and Joe Crouch, Consulting Systems Engineer for Cisco Systems.

SOUTH CHARLESTON — Alpha held what was to be the first in a series of electronic medical records management seminars and workshops Friday, Dec. 12, at the South Charleston Technology Park.

This debut seminar was a success with doctors and office managers, focusing specifically on Meaningful Use.

Featured speakers included Barry Brooks, president and CEO of Innovative Healthcare Solutions, and Chris Passero of Money Concepts.

The event proved a success and received high marks among surveys. It marks the beginning of Alpha's commitment to getting healthcare providers to the level of self sustainability with the rapidly evolving transition into EHR.

"Meaningful Use" means providers need to show they're using certified EHR technology in ways that can be measured significantly in quality and in quantity.

This qualifies them for eligibility for reimbursement through stimulus funding as part of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

HUNTINGTON — Alpha Technologies hosted an event Monday at Marshall University — free to students and business leaders throughout the Charleston-Huntington area — with an emphasis on cloud computing.

The Herald-Dispatch reported on the event and the article is available by clicking this link.

Cloud computing, commonly referred to as “sky computing,” utilizes computing as a service rather than a product. With this concept, handheld touch devices can tap into the processing power of an offsite data center via wireless connection to drive heavier software applications or store data.

Cisco's data center solutions combined with NetApp's computer storage and data management will play a big part in bringing this evolving technology to the user’s fingertips.

Alpha's Marshall event was kind of a peek under the hood of the engine that currently drives the cloud, as well as an exploration of cloud computing in general.

LEXINGTON, KY. — Alpha Technologies is happy to share the good news for Allscripts partners: The Stimulus is real and it pays big.

And University of Kentucky Healthcare (UK Healthcare), an Allscripts Sunrise client, is the proof. They're the first hospital in the country to get a Medicaid EHR Incentive Program Payment — $2.86 million.

This is about a third of the total Meaningful Use payments that they expect to receive from Medicaid over the course of the program.   In other words, the incentives are big and now others will see the program is truly in motion which will help create momentum in the market.

‘Doctor, the Stimulus Payments are real.  In fact, Allscripts clients are already receiving money.  Don’t you want to get your check?’

Funding of up to $19 billion has been earmarked for payment.  Once this is gone, its’ gone.

Automated appointment reminders and personalized patient welcome messages have saved Spectrum a lot of time on regular house calls, while instant access to clinical data and a cost-effecient e-prescription option have significantly cut costs on paper and storage space.
